Updated Aug. 8: The first rendering of Patrick Terry's newest concept Taco Ranch has been released.

Designed by Michael Hsu Architecture, the restaurant transforms the former Burger King on Highway 290. Hsu has designed other Austin restaurants such as Sway, ATX Cocina, Uchi and Icenhauer's.

Posted July 28: By the end of the year, P. Terry's Burger Stand will introduce a new taco concept that brings Austinites back to the 1950s and 1960s, when taco stands were found throughout the city.

Located in the former Burger King at 5033 Hwy. 290, the Taco Ranch menu will have a "handful of items" that use the same all-natural ingredients found in P. Terry's food, according to owner Patrick Terry. Everything from the queso and guacamole to the tortillas and salsa will be made from scratch in the kitchen.

"These will not be $3.50, $4 tacos," Terry said.

Taco Ranch will shy away from the larger menus customary of some Mexican taco joints, Terry said, adding those were typically "over complicated and unnecessary."

"You get vertigo looking at the menu," he said. "There are a million things going on."

The new location will have a dining room, patio and drive-thru and will also serve breakfast fare, including breakfast tacos.

Terry said for now, he does not plan on expanding Taco Ranch.

"The smartest thing we ever did with P. Terry's was we never looked past the first store," he said.

Since its inception in 2005, P. Terry's has opened 14 Austin-area restaurants.

"We're going to concentrate on this and work as hard as we can for it to be successful," he said.
