Austin City Manager Spencer Cronk plans to reveal his proposed budget for fiscal year 2018-19 on Monday, Aug. 6 at a special called meeting, according to a Tuesday press release.

Austin City Council will begin discussing the budget at a work session Aug. 15 with a budget and tax rate public hearings scheduled for Aug. 22 and Aug. 30. Final budget adoption will take place in September.

This will be Cronk’s first budget proposal in Austin. He officially assumed the role in February following more than a yearlong search for a new permanent city manager.

Last year was the first time the city’s general fund—funded mostly through property tax revenue and city fees—eclipsed $1 billion. City officials said they expect this year’s budget to continue the upward trend.

“In a growing and increasingly complex city like Austin, it’s vital that the budget provides a roadmap toward a shared vision for the future,” Cronk said in a statement. “That means focusing on the outcomes we want to see for our investments. [Austin City Council’s strategic direction] provides us a new and meaningful way to engage in budget conversations with the council and the community.”

In April, the city’s budget office presented a financial forecast for 2019 that highlighted the cost of the city’s new paid sick leave policy and the estimated savings the city will incur without a police, fire or EMS contract.
