The city of Austin is punting on a study due next week to the City Council on public properties that could be used to lure professional soccer to Austin.

Austin soccer fans—along with a bevy of residents concerned about parkland—have voiced their opinions on proposed stadium sites, and Precourt Sports Ventures, which owns Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew SC, has opted to drop its preferred site—the Toomey ballfields at Butler Shores—from the sites under consideration for a soccer stadium.

City staff requested Friday in a memo to Austin City Council to indefinitely postpone the analysis of public properties that would suit an MLS stadium.

Among the properties in consideration are 10414 McKalla Place, near The Domain, and Roy G. Guerrero Metropolitan Park, on the southeast shore of Lady Bird Lake in East Austin.

Staffers will begin a "robust community engagement" after the city reconciles its list with a property analysis by PSV, the Columbus Crew owners, according to the memo. The community engagement would take approximately three months.

PSV responded Friday saying the memo was "consistent with the recent planning discussions."

"We are continuing to finish our assessment on the remaining recommended sites," PSV said in a statement. "As we’ve narrowed down potential sites, we’ve identified numerous factors that need to be analyzed to make the best decision for both the community and the soccer club."
