What We Reported
The Major League Soccer team Columbus Crew SC is weighing a move from Ohio to Austin with ownership group Precourt Sports Ventures hinging the potential relocation of the team on securing a stadium site—preferably in the city’s urban core. This prompted the city to comb through its real estate portfolio for land that could be suitable for housing what could be Austin’s first major-league professional sports team. A preliminary list of eight public properties was presented in December—including one at Butler Shores at Town Lake Metropolitan Park, which PSV has tabbed as its ideal location.
The Latest
PSV will give the city of Austin its feedback on the properties that could be offered up and would present community benefits, PSV President Dave Greeley said.
What’s Next
The city plans to bring a “more comprehensive report” of public properties to City Council by February. Use of city parkland for the MLS team could trigger a May or November election.
