The Travis County Tax Office headquarters will move to a new location in June.

The office will be located at 2433 Ridgepoint Drive, Austin, and is named the Nelda Wells Spears Building in honor of the first Black tax assessor-collector in the state.

“I am really excited that the tax office is getting its own building, thanks to Travis County Commissioners Court,” Tax Assessor-Collector Bruce Elfant said in a statement. “We expect this move will allow us to improve our processes and customer service.”

Spears retired from Travis County in 2011 and died in 2018.

The tax office is located on Airport Boulevard with other Travis County departments.

The new location will feature a large mural of Spears and have more parking than the current office.

The move will begin in June. Because the department is so large, some divisions might move ahead of others, according to a press release. Updates about the relocation will be posted here.

The tax office also has four other locations throughout the county.
