The city of Austin has 264 of the 750 lifeguards needed for summer as of May 26, or about 35%. However, the department of parks and recreation announced it will be able to resume normal hours at Barton Springs Pool starting May 30.

The department began a push to increase the number of lifeguards starting earlier this year in an attempt to avoid closures related to staffing.

In March, the city began closing Barton Springs Pool twice a week due to a lack of lifeguards.

Austin is offering up to $1,250 in bonuses for lifeguards and $16 an hour. More information about lifeguard jobs can be found here. Information about pool closures and hours can be found here.
