The contract is for master-planning, engineering studies, design and construction at the undeveloped 77-acre park along the north side of the South San Gabriel River. Amenities could include softball fields, multipurpose fields, concessions, parking, trails, picnic shelters and a covered sports court, according to city documents.
Voters approved $26.65 million in funding in 2016 for parks acquisition and development, including San Gabriel Park.
Tony Bettis, the city's capital improvement program project manager, said part of the agreement includes a hydraulic and hydrologic study of the movement of water on the property, which was previously farmland.
"Master planning will go through and look, and determine exactly what is needed by the public for recreation and athletics," he said.
