The driving range at Leander’s Crystal Falls Golf Club will be renovated to improve the city-owned facilities.

The $840,000 project will improve the driving range to “widen the tee box, lengthen the drive, eliminate hazardous berms and regrade the range to deter ponding and improve water runoff,” according to the city. The project will also include a $90,000 project option to bring the putting greens up to PGA standards.

The project is expected to complete by the end of June, according to the city.

Leander City Council awarded a contract for the renovations Feb. 7 with Fleetwood Services. The city received one bid for the project totaling $840,000, which is about $360,000 over the existing general fund budget. The city’s parkland dedication fund, which has a $1.1 million excess, will fund the remainder of the project, according to the city.

Tony Bettis, the city capital improvement program project manager, said pausing or rebidding the project would likely increase the project’s cost based on the current inflated construction costs.
