“Michael is an extraordinarily talented health care executive with an extensive background in children’s health care,” Ascension Texas President and CEO Andy Davis said in the March 10 press release. “His experience in hospital operations, quality improvement and physician practice management make him an ideal selection as president of Dell Children’s Hospital.”
Wiggins has held multiple leadership positions in children’s health care, according to the release. Prior to joining Dell Children’s, Wiggins served as president and CEO at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, where he was responsible for strategic direction, philanthropy development and multiple other tasks.
Other previous roles Wiggins served in include senior vice president at Children’s Health System of Texas in Dallas and vice president of operations at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. Currently, Wiggins works as an assistant professor in the department of pediatrics at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, and he serves on multiple boards.
In addition to Dell Children’s Medical Center, Wiggins will also lead the upcoming Dell Children’s Medical Center North, which is undergoing final touches on the building.
