Travis County constables and the Drug Enforcement Administration are hosting Drug Take Back Day on Oct. 29—a national event inviting residents to turn in expired or unwanted prescription drugs.

Residents can drop off drugs free and anonymously at any of the five locations throughout Travis County from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Officials will accept patches, capsules, pills and other forms of prescription drugs but will not take syringes or any illicit substances, according to the DEA.

The last National Take Back Day in April led to 52,806 pounds of prescription drugs collected in Texas. Over 1.2 million pounds of prescription drugs have been collected in Texas since the program began in 2010, according to the DEA.

The Travis County Constable Precinct 5 office also has a drop-off box for prescription drugs open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
