A purchase for up to seven fleet vehicles was approved by Leander City Council at its March 16 meeting.

The $302,006 purchase from Gunn Buick GMC includes various vehicles for multiple departments in the city.

Two vehicles were approved for the engineering department and one vehicle each for general services, code enforcement, emergency management, building inspections and golf maintenance. Some of the vehicles were replacements, while others were additions.

Because the vehicles are in such high demand, Executive Finance Director Robert Powers said so far, only six vehicles may be available for purchase.

“I’m afraid we’re down to six, ... but we’ll place the order tomorrow and we’ll confirm whether we have all seven or whether it’s down to six,” Powers said at the meeting. “Because they are at such high demand, they won’t hold them for too long.”

This purchase will be funded through the general fund or vehicle replacement fund from the fiscal year 2022-23 budget.

Additionally, city staff is still working to obtain seven other budgeted vehicles, which includes five trucks, one SUV and one van, according to the meeting documents. Powers said the city is still in the process of securing bids for the vehicles.
