The Fire Station Overhead Door Replacement project will remove and replace the overhead garage doors at Fire Stations Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4, according to the city. This project will also include the installation of new hardware and safety brackets. Since Fire Station No. 5 is fairly new, city staff decided improvements were not needed at this time.
“They’re costing a lot for maintenance, so that’s why we’re trying to replace them all—motors, doors, everything ... the new doors are lighter,” Fire Chief James Mallinger said at the meeting. “So it’s an improvement project for us.”
After a garage door failure at Fire Station No. 1 and the continued increase in maintenance costs, the Cedar Park Fire Department recognized this need for door replacements.
On Sept. 7, the city received two proposals for prospective contractors. Because one of the contractors was considered nonresponsive—due to lack of required documents—HCS Inc. was selected for the project.
Estimated to cost $249,000, the project will be funded through the city’s fiscal year 2021-22 budget.
