Early voting began May 31 in the runoff election for two Leander City Council positions.

Following the May 7 election, the races for Place 3 and Place 5 resulted in the need for a runoff because no single candidate received more than 50% of votes.

Juan Alanis and David McDonald are vying for the Place 3 seat. McDonald received 43.1% of votes May 7, while Alanis had 23.48%, according to the city of Leander’s ordinance canvassing the election results.

In the Place 5 race, incumbent Council Member Chris Czernek advanced to the runoff along with challenger Bill Louden. Czernek secured 43.49% of the May 7 vote, while Louden had 29.68%, according to the city.
