The process to name Leander ISD’s 29th elementary school is underway. The school will open for the 2022-23 school year in the Bryson subdivision in Leander.

Community members can submit name suggestions online through Dec. 5.

Leander ISD board members approved a school naming charter for the new school Nov. 18. Name recommendations will be presented to the board at its Dec. 16 meeting.

The naming committee includes only people who live in the upcoming school's attendance zone. The committee will review submissions from the LISD community and provide no more than one recommendation per category to the board, district spokesperson Corey Ryan said.

As stated in district policy, categories include a historical or geographical site or community; a deceased, significant individual; a local, state or national historical event or place; a significant state or national figure; or a person who has made a significant contribution to education in the district.

The school is under construction at 1840 Pleasant Hill Road, Leander. Attendance zones for the new school were approved in February and offer crowding relief to Larkspur and Plain elementary schools.

Committee members include Kimberly Huddleston, Shawna Kidney, David Thompson, David Martin, Casey Muse, Jennifer Baker, Colette Flormann and Sara Wenberg, according to the district.
