Leander ISD will open its newest campus, Tarvin Elementary School, to students on Aug. 12 for the 2021-22 school year. This is the district's 28th elementary school.

The school is located in the Palmera Ridge subdivision at 1280 Logan Del Way, Leander.

Christy Hilbun is the school's first principal. Hilbun previously was the principal at Bagdad Elementary School in Leander for four years and also worked at Giddens, Whitestone and Reagan elementary schools, according to the district.

Tarvin Elementary is named for Nancy Tarvin, a former executive director of elementary curriculum. Tarvin retired in 2016 after about 25 years with the district and died of cancer in 2017. Tarvin also worked as an associate school psychologist, lead psychologist and director of special education, according to previous Community Impact Newspaper reporting.

Tarvin Elementary's $40.8 million construction was funded through the 2017 voter-approved bond. To open the school, parts of Parkside and Pleasant Hill elementary schools were rezoned into Tarvin.

LISD will hold a dedication ceremony Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. for the new school.
