In the first week of Leander ISD families choosing which type of instruction they will enter when virtual learning ends Sept. 8, 54% of the district’s projected enrollment has already responded, according to LISD spokesperson Matt Mitchell.

As of 10:30 a.m. July 31, LISD has received 23,286 total responses. The choices for all grades were 48% in-person, 46% virtual and 6% hybrid (offered only in elementary), according to LISD data.

The breakdown by levels is as follows:
  • High school: 57% in person, 43% virtual
  • Middle school: 50% in person, 50% virtual
  • Elementary school: 42% in person, 45% virtual, 13% hybrid.
School starts Aug. 13 and for the first three weeks will be 100% virtual. In-person, hybrid and virtual learning will begin Sept. 8—but LISD has the flexibility to extend 100% virtual learning up to four additional weeks.

The online selection process—available in eight languages—opened July 24 and runs through Aug. 6. Families have the option to change the method of learning during the school year.

“Elementary school students will be able to change after the nine-week grading period,” Mitchell said in an email. “Middle and high school students will be able to change after the six-week grading period.“
