Leander ISD will use phones to register students for its first year of full-day pre-K.

Registration is being held at all 27 LISD elementary schools. The registration was originally scheduled to be held in-person at Grandview Hills and Pleasant Hill elementary schools, but coronavirus concerns prompted LISD to switch to phone registration, according to the district.

A list of LISD elementary schools, addresses and phone numbers is available here.

The free program is open to children who live within district boundaries and will be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, according to LISD. They must also meet at least one eligibility requirement:
  • unable to speak and understand the English language;
  • eligible for the free or reduced-price lunch program;
  • homeless;
  • child of an active-duty member of the armed forces or a reservist on active duty;
  • child of a current or former military member who was injured or killed while on active duty; or
  • has ever been in the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
A limited number of tuition-based pre-K slots will be available as well.

LISD studies show students who enroll in pre-K score better on early standardized tests than students who qualify but are not enrolled in pre-K, according to the district.
