The Leander ISD board of trustees has scheduled an emergency virtual meeting for 6 p.m. March 19 to discuss the effect of coronavirus concerns on the district.

The public may view the meeting online by visiting this LISD webpage. Citizens may comment as well by signing up between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. at this link.

After receiving an update on the effect of the coronavirus outbreak on the district and community, trustees are expected to vote to give Superintendent Bruce Gearing greater authority, which would allow LISD employees to continue to receive pay after spring break ends March 22. School has been canceled for two weeks through April 3.

On March 16, Gov. Greg Abbott suspended part of the Texas Open Meetings Act, which guarantees public access to and participation at government meetings. The requirement that governments provide a physical meeting space where people can watch and interact has been suspended.
