Due to coronavirus concerns, Cedar Park City Council will discuss the possibility of delaying the May 2 city election at a future council meeting, according to a city spokesperson.

The mayor and three council seats will be on the May 2 ballot. Mayor Corbin Van Arsdale, as well as Council Members Mel Kirkland on Place 2 and Dorian Chavez on Place 6, are running for re-election. Place 4 Council Member Mike Guevara is not.

On March 18, Gov. Greg Abbott issued a proclamation that allows cities to postpone their upcoming May 2 elections until November in light of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

"Cedar Park is still evaluating any delays in the May 2020 election. It will be discussed at an upcoming council meeting, however, a meeting date has not yet been determined," city spokesperson Fran Irwin said.

Council's next meeting is scheduled for March 26.

Early voting begins April 20.
