Leander City Council officially declared May 14 as Leander Pride Day in honor of the Leander Pride nonprofit organization at the council meeting May 5.

Established this year, Leander Pride’s mission is to make the city of Leander a more inclusive place for LGBTQ residents and to raise awareness in the community.

“I challenge anyone who has been a quiet ally to join me today, every day, and especially on May 14, in loudly, proudly advocating for and celebrating our LGBTQ friends and neighbors,” Leander Pride co-treasurer Jennifer White said at the meeting. “Leander wouldn’t be the same without them.”

On May 14, Leander Pride will host its A Rainbow to Remember event, which will include an art show, a drag show, local speakers, a gay prom dance, and food trucks and vendors. The event will be held at Wilco WorkSpaces + Events in Leander.

“I urge the people of Leander to come together despite our differences so that all residents feel seen, heard, represented, welcome and proud to belong to this city we know and love,” Mayor Christine DeLisle said in the proclamation.
