After being exposed to sugaring hair removal in California, twin sisters Lee Anne Fry and Holly Middour wanted to bring those services to Central Texas, establishing Southern Sugar and Brow in August 2019.

Sugaring is a gentler hair removal form of waxing. Sugar wax is made of sugar, water and lemon juice, and it has longer-lasting, smoother effects, Fry and Middour said.

Also offered at the studio is a variety of relaxing beauty services, such as facials, Botox and fillers, airbrush tanning, permanent makeup, lash and brow services, teeth whitening, tiny tattoos and energy healing.

“[You can] find a little oasis away from home, where you can come in and just relax,” Middour said. “It’s always just a hangout type of vibe, and women do love to come here and just kind of unwind.”

Fry previously worked in human resources before gaining experience in permanent cosmetics, microblading and ombre brow services. Middour worked in cancer care prior to receiving her esthetician license and focusing on sugaring.

The business prioritizes customer service and building up confidence in women, Fry said. She said women’s empowerment is what sets the beauty studio apart from others.

“Building up women is just one of the leading motivators in building this business. Building women’s confidence and how they feel about themselves, it’s just important to us,” she said.

Since opening, Southern Sugar and Brow has expanded its building and staff. This year, Middour and Fry are looking to open another location in Liberty Hill or Cedar Park.

Middour said they want Southern Sugar and Brow to be the face of sugaring in Texas while still keeping its hometown feel.

“It’s so important to give back to yourself. We’re all going a hundred miles a minute,” Fry said. “You have to love yourself ... to be able to pour into other people.”
