Transitioning into the next phase of retirement is not always easy, especially when there are countless options for senior living communities. Luckily, the new community The Oscar at Georgetown is giving potential residents a taste of what life would be like at The Oscar before it opens.

From April 24-28, interested residents can take part in multiple “Day in the Life” events as the community gears up to open this summer at 3810 Williams Drive, Georgetown. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP by calling 512-361-1692, and staff will be onsite to discuss the new community’s amenities, services and lifestyle. All events and experiences for this series are free of charge.

“We have intentionally selected four different and unique experiences to give people a chance to see what the lifestyle will be like at The Oscar. Attendees can try one or try them all. Why not meet your potential future neighbors and build lasting friendships, before you even move in?” executive director Brian Haddock said.

Experiences include:

April 24: Mini golf and bocce:
A bartender will be on-site to make signature cocktails for attendees as they play mini golf and bocce. Attendees can come and go as they please.
  • 4-7 p.m.
  • Cen-Tex Mini Golf, 5020 Airport Road, Georgetown
April 25: Intro to kayaking: This event will be in partnership with Georgetown Parks and Recreation and will start off at Blue Hole Park.
  • 9:30-11:30 a.m.
  • 201 San Gabriel Village Blvd., Georgetown (Meet at Hat Creek)
April 27: Muralist led art project: This will be led by famous local muralist and sign painter Sarah Blankenship.
  • 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Georgetown Art Center, 816 S. Main St., Georgetown
April 28: Senior fitness class (all abilities): Attendees can experience a senior fitness class like one of many that will be offered at the community. The Oscar will have an on-site fitness center and an indoor heated saltwater pool, offering multiple options to help maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
  • 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • NKB Dance, 610 N. Austin Ave., Georgetown
The Oscar at Georgetown plans to open this summer in phases, with the 175 independent living spaces opening first, and the 40 assisted living and 16 memory care spaces opening two months later.

Haddock said the community’s amenities are ideal for both residents who want to stay active and social as they get older, as well as those who simply are tired of cooking, cleaning and house upkeep.

Some amenities and services include weekly housekeeping, continental breakfast, arts and crafts, game rooms, billiard rooms, an indoor heated saltwater pool, a sports bar with a liquor license, a mini golf area, a dog park, an outdoor patio and three different onsite dining options with unique menus.

“We have a substantial focus on creating a vibrant quality of life through our activities and programming. Residents can lead an independent and active lifestyle, away from the burdens of daily life. There will be up to 100 activities offered a month for our residents to participate in, which will span a wide variety of interests so that there is something for everyone,” Haddock said.

With independent living, assisted living and memory care on-site, residents can easily transition while continuing to be part of the community and interacting with the same staff they have grown to know and trust.

Touring the community is not available due to construction, but The Oscar is actively pre-leasing apartments from their leasing office in Georgetown. Interested parties can see detailed floor plans, samples of surfaces and colors and even take a virtual tour of a sister community. The Oscar is offering special incentives for those that pre-lease an apartment now versus waiting until they open this summer.

“We do encourage people not to just wait until we're open. In particular, if they're looking for a two bedroom or a larger one bedroom, those have been preleasing very rapidly and will be not available if somebody waits until we open,” Haddock said.
