Vandegrift High School dance teacher Holly Lyons was recognized by Leander ISD trustees for being named the 2019 Director of the Year by the Texas Dance Educators’ Association.

Lyons was one of three finalists voted on by the more than 1,000-member TDEA, according to LISD. Lyons is scheduled to speak at the association’s annual convention in January in Houston.

Lyons has been the VHS Legacies dance team director for the past 11 years, according to LISD. A VHS charter faculty member, she is also the program director for the dance guard, Vision Dance Company, and the head of the VHS Performing Arts Department.

Lyons lives in Austin with her husband, John, and their three children: Jackson, Abi and Will.

Board President Trish Bode recognized Lyons at the Oct. 17 meeting.
