The cities of Cedar Park and Leander are hosting a joint celebration for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The details

The festivities will begin with a free march, beginning at the Cedar Park Recreation Center at 10 a.m. A celebration inside the recreation center will follow, with performances from dancers, musicians and spoken word artists from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Cost: free to attend
Attendees are encouraged to bring donations of food and hygiene products. The cities are partnering with Brighter Days Food Pantry and The Healthy Hygiene Project.

“I think in a lot of ways, it’s more important than ever to remember Dr. King’s legacy," Cedar Park Mayor Jim Penniman-Morin said at a Jan. 8 City Council meeting.


“We have a pretty close community between Leander and Cedar Park, and so many people are overlapping and coming to these events,” Leander City Council member Na’Cole Thompson said at a Dec. 18 meeting. “We wanted to figure out some way that we could partner together, and so I’m happy to see that."
