Cedar Park City Council Member Eric Boyce replaced Council Member Anne Duffy as mayor pro tem.

What you need to know

The mayor pro tem is appointed by the mayor and presides over meetings in his absence, according to Cedar Park’s website. Duffy has held the position since April 2023, and previously filled the role from May 2018 to May 2019.

At the Nov. 21 council meeting, Mayor Jim Penniman-Morin said there was a tradition in the city that the mayor pro tem not be a member who is up for reelection. Duffy was first elected in 2017 and is up for reelection in the spring.

Penniman-Morin said he asked Boyce to succeed Duffy in the role. His appointment took effect Nov. 21. Boyce was first elected in 2020, and has been the Founder and CEO of Boyce & Associates Wealth Consulting since 2017, according to the company's website.

What they’re saying

“Thank you Anne again for all your service as mayor pro tem. And more personally, thank you for your continued mentorship over these many years. I have always really appreciated it,” Penniman-Morin said.

Regarding her position as mayor pro tem, Duffy said, “I’ve enjoyed it and I’ll still keep showing up. Thank you to everyone.”

Boyce was absent from the Nov. 21 meeting, but Community Impact caught up with him on Dec. 6.

“I’m here to support the mayor when the mayor is away or unable to be available," Boyce said. "I’m just happy to be here and do what I can to serve the citizens,”
