Cedar Park City Council heard a presentation about a possible private school expansion during its Nov. 14 meeting.

No action was taken on the item, but council heard a first reading of a special-use permit application to allow Hill Country Christian School of Austin to operate a private school on 10.62 acres at 3502 Hatch Road.

The item is set to be voted on at City Council’s Nov. 21 meeting.

The big picture

The school already operates out of Hill Country Bible Church, which is adjacent to the property that is the subject of the application, according to agenda documents.

The applicant, Hagood Engineering Associates on behalf of the school, plans to modify the existing facility at the site, which is currently developed for religious assembly, so the school can move its middle and high schoolers there, according to the documents.

Two-minute impact

School traffic would access the property from Little Elm Trail through the Hill Country Bible Church parking lot and exit on Hatch Road, according to the documents.

What they’re saying

Council member Heather Jefts said she was concerned the school may use portables if it expands.

As the city understands the application, there is no plan to build new buildings, said Andreina Davila-Quintero, assistant director of development services.

The SUP would only apply to existing buildings at the site, and if the school wishes to expand in the future, another SUP application process would be necessary, she said.
