Williamson County Commissioners Court gave initial approval to the proposed tax rates for six road districts during its Aug. 20 meeting.

The gist

According to county officials, road districts are created by the commissioners court. After a road district is created an election is held to determine the bonding capacity and tax rate cap for future bond sales.

County officials said road districts benefit the public at large, but are paid for by residents within the district.

Road districts also contain agreements with developers and outline how bond sales will reimburse the construction of necessary arterial roadways, officials said.

There are currently seven road districts within Williamson County, according to county documents.

Proposed fiscal year 2024-25 road district tax rates:
  • Avery Ranch Road District No. 1: $0.027 per $100 valuation
  • Pearson Place Road District: $0.0572 per $100 valuation
  • Northwoods Road District No. 1: $0.1878 per $100 valuation
  • Somerset Hills Road District No. 3: $0.29 per $100 valuation
  • Somerset Hills Road District No. 4: $0.29 per $100 valuation
  • Avery Centre No. 1: $0.15 per $100 valuation
Residents can search for their property on the Williamson County Appraisal District website to see if they are in a road district.

County officials said the tax rate repays the bonds taken out for construction.

Maintenance is not paid for by the tax rate. Instead, either the county or the city in which the roads are located is responsible for costs associated with maintenance.
