Upon completion of the new public library in the Bell District, Cedar Park leaders are planning to repurpose and remodel the existing facility at 550 Discovery Blvd. into a new space focusing on mixed programming opportunities.

“We came up with this concept to reuse this space, recreate what’s there and develop a robust programming platform that we can put out for the community,” Interim Parks and Recreation Director Mike DeVito said during the May 23 Cedar Park City Council meeting.

The new space will be called RE|CREATE and will provide a variety of programs under the direction of the city’s parks and recreation department, according to city documents.

DeVito said intended programming consists of:
  • Yoga, exercise and fitness
  • Dance
  • Arts and theater
  • Crafts and woodworking
Other opportunities include senior programming, homeschool and education classes, and children’s playtime, according to the documents. Additional programming possibilities could be determined during the design process.

Officials are anticipating the new space to have a cafe, a children’s indoor play area, a theater, classrooms, multipurpose rooms, office spaces, conference rooms as well as indoor and outdoor communal spaces.

The action taken

During its May 23 meeting, Cedar Park City Council approved an agreement with Dahlin Group to provide architectural services for the design and construction of the RE|CREATE remodel project. The services will cost the city $300,000.
