The Williamson County Commissioners Court approved a memorandum of understanding April 30 between AGE of Central Texas and HELP Lending Closet Partner—a Williamson County EMS initiative—in an effort to provide durable medical equipment, or DME, for those who need it in the community.

The overview

The program will increase access to a variety of items, including:
  • Wheelchairs
  • Transport Chairs
  • Walkers
  • Canes
  • Crutches
  • Shower Chairs
  • Stools
  • And more
Many of these items can cost hundreds of dollars with insurance and even more for those without insurance.

In the agreement, the AGE of Central Texas will be responsible for providing good quality, gently-used DME ready for distribution.

HELP Lending Closet will provide free loans of DME at various locations throughout the county to increase access to the free resource, according to county documents. The Lending Closet also agreed to collect demographic information from the individuals receiving the equipment and, with patient consent, share this information to the AGE of Central Texas.

AGE of Central Texas is a nonprofit organization that offers education and assistance to individuals at various stages of the aging process. AGE supports and serves over 3,000 older adults and caregivers annually through its programs.
