Williamson County is accepting applications for the first ever Government Citizens’ Academy, in which county residents can gain insights into the process of county tax dollar spending.

What you need to know

As part of Williamson County's celebration of County Government Month, the county is offering a free eight-week course designed to provide insight into the inner workings of county government and highlight opportunities for residents to engage with their community, according to a county news release. Availability is limited to the first 30 applicants.

The classes will take place on Thursdays from 10 a.m.-noon from April 4 to May 23. Each week, sessions will be held at different county buildings in Georgetown and will feature various speakers.

What to expect


Topics covered will include county history, Williamson County Commissioners Court, the justice system, law enforcement, roads, emergency services, the budgeting process, elections, economic development, parks and the animal shelter.
