Cedar Park City Council approved a special use permit that allows a mobile food establishment court and up to six food trucks at sports complex The Crossover on Jan. 25.

The Crossover was originally allowed three food trucks on the property, and because three additional trucks were added in December, a special use permit was required for the sports complex to continue to be in compliance.

The backstory

In June, council passed an ordinance that requires businesses with more than one food truck on the property to have a special use permit. However, officials said the three existing food trucks at The Crossover were “grandfathered in."

The ordinance regulates a business or resident from making “random” food courts, council member Mel Kirkland said to Community Impact in a message.

Because of the new ordinance, officials said The Crossover owners applied for the special use permit to bring the three newest food trucks added to the property into compliance.
