The Cedar Park Police Department will now have an additional officer on the force after a unanimous City Council decision.

What you need to know

At its Oct. 12 meeting, council approved the addition of one police officer, who will be dedicated to criminal investigations.

Council also approved the conversion of two corporal positions into sergeants, which ensures adequate supervision for certain shifts, officials said.

In case you missed it

City staff proposed at a September meeting that council make amendments to the Strength of Force ordinance—which authorizes the number of civil service positions in the police department.

Council needed to approve the amendments to the ordinance to allow the addition of the new officer along with the conversion of two corporals in the police department.

Keep in mind

The new adjustments will go into effect Oct. 13.
