Leander ISD will begin offering tuition-based child care services for its staff members next school year.

What’s happening

LISD announced the new child care offering in a newsletter posted to its website in January. The service will be available to full-time employees with 3- and 4-year-old children beginning in the 2025-26 school year.

The district is now surveying staff members and will use this feedback to determine the program’s tuition rates, enrollment procedures and location, according to district information.

What they’re saying

“The district believes that investing in our staff's families honors the roles both at work and at home,” said Erin Garner, director of early childhood education, in an email from the district.

In case you missed it

In August 2026, LISD is planning to open its first early childhood center at the intersection of San Gabriel Parkway and Halsey Drive.

The new center is expected to serve around 600 of the district’s 3- and 4-year-old prekindergarten students. The free program is available to families based on eligibility.

The early childhood center comes alongside the opening of new elementary schools as LISD looks to accommodate growth in the northern portion of the district.

District officials presented the preliminary design for the center in July, with construction anticipated to begin in March.
