Parents and community members can submit their input on hazardous bus routes through an online form until Jan. 21.
How it works
Each year, LISD officials review areas in which students living within two miles of a campus might require bus services. The district does not typically provide bus services to these students but does so if a student’s walking path to school is considered hazardous.
A route is automatically deemed hazardous if it:
- Crosses a highway or arterial street without controls, such as a stop sign, traffic signal, crosswalk or crossing guard
- Runs alongside a street with a speed limit over 45 mph
- Crosses a railroad crossing
Next steps
The board of trustees will approve the final routes after reviewing community feedback. The district expects to notify affected families in March, according to LISD information.
