Community members in Leander ISD may now apply to volunteer on an advisory committee for the upcoming school year.

The campus-based and districtwide groups are intended to help support LISD students and teachers, according to district information. The district is also accepting applications for its leadership program for community members.

The overview

Parents and community members may serve on the following advisory committees:
  • Community-Based Accountability System
  • Community Curriculum Advisory Committee
  • District-wide Educational Improvement Council
  • School Health Advisory Committee
  • Long-Range Planning Committee
  • Educational Access Ambassadors
Committee applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Aug. 23. Applicants should expect to hear back by early to mid-September, according to the application.

The specifics


The Community-Based Accountability System committee is intended to support the district’s strategic plan, and help LISD design an internal accountability and assessment system, and customize its processes to meet the community’s needs, according to district information.

On the Community Curriculum Advisory Committee, members can provide guidance on district curriculum, instructional resources and potential new courses and programs.

The District-wide Educational Improvement Council advises the board of trustees on the district’s educational goals and objectives while reviewing classroom instructional programs and counseling on staff development.

School Health Advisory Committee members recommend an elementary and middle school health program, and address physical activity, nutrition, substance abuse prevention and health education in the district, according to district information.


The Long-Range Planning Committee aims to to align the district with is strategic plan by utilizing LISD’s 10-year plan as well as learning about and educating community members on long-range planning.

Educational Access Ambassadors are LISD parents and guardians who represent internal and external stakeholders in the district and advocate for all students to have enhanced educational access.

Also of note

Additionally, applications are now open for the Leadership LISD Class of 2025. The nine-month program allows community members to learn about various LISD programs and departments from district leaders and through hands-on activities.


Participants will attend nine classes held on Wednesdays once a month from September to May.
