Residents interested in running for a spot on the Leander ISD board of trustees will soon be able to file for a place on the ballot.

On Nov. 5, the district will hold an election for Places 3, 4 and 5 as the trustees in these positions reach the end of their current four-year terms.

Place 3 board member Christine Mauer and Place 4 board member Anna Smith have served on the board since 2020, while Place 5 board member Sade Fashokun was elected in 2022, after her predecessor Jim MacKay resigned, according to district information.

What you need to know

From July 22-Aug. 19, eligible candidates may file to run in the November election if they:
  • Are a United States citizen
  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Have not been ruled mentally incapacitated by a court
  • Have not been convicted of a felony
  • Have resided in Texas for 12 months continuously and in LISD for six months before the filing deadline
  • Are registered to vote in LISD
While the filing period opens July 20, LISD will begin accepting applications July 22 at 9 a.m. once its offices open.


The deadline to file is Aug. 19 at 5 p.m. while write-in candidates must file by Aug. 23.

Aug. 26 is the last day candidates may withdraw from the general election.

  • In-person from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the LISD Administration Building, which is located at 204 W. South St., Leander
  • Emailing [email protected]
  • Mailing Cindy Anderson with LISD at P.O. Box 218, Leander

Early voting will occur from Oct. 21-Nov. 1, and Election Day is Nov. 5, according to district information. The last day to register to vote is Oct. 7.
