The background

ECHS allows students to receive a high school diploma and associate’s degree by the time they graduate. The school—located at the Austin Community College San Gabriel Campus— serves historically underrepresented students and provides rigorous instruction and personalized support, according to district documents.

Students are selected through a blind weighted lottery that gives an additional entry to targeted populations as defined by the Texas Education Agency.

ECHS welcomed its inaugural class of 115 students in August of 2022, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.
