1. Leander senior center to open in January
The city of Leander plans to open its new senior center in January.
Russell Alabastro, Leander Capital Improvement Program project manager, said at the Dec. 18 City Council meeting that he expects the project to be substantially completed by the end of the month.
City Manager Todd Parton said the city is planning on holding a ribbon-cutting in January and a formal dedication ceremony later in the year, likely March.
The senior center is located at 709 Municipal Drive and will include a variety of amenities, including:
- Multipurpose room
- Full kitchen
- Fitness room
- Activities room
2. Twin Lakes Family YMCA expansions slated to open by summer
Two major projects at the Twin Lakes Family YMCA in Cedar Park are slated to open at the end of May, according to Laura Arredondo, YMCA of Central Texas chief marketing officer.
The YMCA broke ground on the Avery Family Pavilion and the Orr Family RCI Adventure Course in May 2025.

3. Cedar Park eyes 2027 completion of pedestrian bridge
The city of Cedar Park expects to complete the design and permitting process for a pedestrian bridge over South Bell Boulevard/US 183 by summer, with construction to be completed by the end of 2027.
The bridge will connect Lakeline Park to the Twin Lakes Family YMCA campus.
The city’s infrastructure projects in the area also include about a mile of new trail segments.

4. Future uncertain for Leander Municipal Athletic Complex
The future of the planned Leander Municipal Athletic Complex is uncertain after the design process identified significant challenges with regard to water, according to Ty Meighan, communications manager for the city of Leander.
Meighan said in an email that those challenges include drainage, flood plain issues, and access to wastewater.
“Before the City of Leander commits to spending additional funding to address these issues, the city is evaluating to determine if there is a more fiscally prudent option for the park,” Meighan said. “The evaluation is continuing, and the city has not yet made a final decision on the project.”
