Cedar Park City Council heard a presentation on a request for a special-use permit to allow a day care to operate at 2015 Little Elm Trail at its Nov. 14 meeting.

Ryan Irion with TDI Engineering applied for the SUP so Little Hugs Childcare could operate 3,000 square feet of day care space, accommodating up to 70 children, in an incoming building at the site.

Council took no action on the request, and the SUP is set to be voted on at the Nov. 21 City Council meeting, according to agenda documents.

Two-minute impact

The building is being built on roughly 0.68 acres of land in a shopping center, and the property is surrounded by retail and commercial development, restaurants, a coffee shop, a senior living facility and another day care center, said Andreina Davila-Quintero, assistant director of development services for Cedar Park.

The SUP request, if approved, would allow the day care to operate in just over half of the building. City staff reviewed the application and recommended approval.

What they’re saying

Council members expressed concern over the possible traffic impacts of allowing the business to operate at the site.

“It’s already a hot mess over there with the coffee shop on any given day,” Mayor Pro Tem Anne Duffy said.

“This day care use should not be a problem traffic-wise,” Irion said, referencing a traffic study on the day care’s current operations.

If parents enter from Little Elm Trail, he said, they should be able to avoid adding to the traffic from the coffee shop.

The child care facility is looking to relocate from its current space at 11701 Hero Way W., Ste. B, Leander.
