“We are excited to be able to open up more areas of the park through the installation of this bridge,” Precinct 2 Commissioner Cynthia Long said in a news release.
In a nutshell
The new 300-foot bridge allows pedestrians to safely access a previously inaccessible 4.2-acre peninsula at Twin Lakes Park, said Laura Arredondo, chief marketing officer for the YMCA of Central Texas. The 60-acre park, which lies adjacent to the Twin Lakes Family YMCA, is owned by Williamson County and operated by the YMCA of Central Texas.
The YMCA is working on beautifying the peninsula, which can now be utilized by pedestrians for walking, running and camping at YMCA Camp Twin Lakes, Arredondo said.
Williamson County funded 76% of the $1.14 million project from voter-approved park bonds, and 24% of funding came from the YMCA of Central Texas, she said.
What's next
The YMCA plans to build a new enclosed pavilion and RCI Adventure Ropes Course next to its Twin Lakes facility that will be open to the general public.
The ropes course will have a version for younger children that will be lower to the ground along with a more intense adventure course for older children and adults, Arredondo said. She said the new pavilion will have retractable doors, allowing it to function as an air-conditioned, indoor-outdoor space.
The YMCA does not have a timeline for when construction on the new project will begin but has completed the design for the pavilion and is working on designing the ropes course, she said.
