Since September 2023, Petbar in Cedar Park has shaped a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for pet owners to find washing and grooming services all under one roof. Owned by Garrett Dewan, the business has grown to serve 250 monthly members.

How we got here

Dewan worked in the corporate sphere for 20 years before considering running his own business. When searching for the right fit, he looked into a variety of business options from gyms to restaurants and ultimately landed in the pet space.

“People will always have dogs,” Dewan said. “They’ll always need to get haircuts for dogs and baths for dogs. We have four dogs ourselves and both of my daughters are studying to be veterinarians in college so it just kind of fits the theme of the stuff we're interested in.”

What they offer

The business offers services for pets of all sizes ranging from small to huge. Services include full-service washes, self-service washes and grooming.

The full service bath and brush includes a bath, drying, blow out, ear cleaning, nail trim and a light brush out. Owners can purchase add-ons to their service such as teeth brushing, oatmeal baths, blueberry facials, usage of high quality shampoos and paw and elbow balm.

In addition to one-time payments, pet owners can purchase monthly memberships to get services at a more affordable price if they plan to visit at least once a month.

The location also hosts an affordable vaccination clinic in collaboration with Pop Up Pet Vax once a month to provide low cost resources to the Cedar Park community. The events typically feature vaccinations, microchips and preventatives.

The impact

Since its opening, the Cedar Park business has grown to have 250 current members. While the team gets to know the regular faces bringing their pets in for services, Dewan said the strongest bond made it between the groomers and the dogs.

“You get to learn what the dog is comfortable with, what they’re used to, what they like and what they don’t like,” Dewan said. “It makes the relationship easier when [the owners] see how much the team cares.”

Dewan said the team works together to create a safe and comfortable environment for the dogs especially when the furry clients come in unsure about the experience.

“When there’s a big dog, an aggressive dog or a nervous dog, we have one team member kind of calm the dog, pet the dog while the other one trims the nails,” Dewan said. “There’s a lot of collaboration involved. The calmer everybody is the calmer the dogs are.”

Looking forward

Dewan purchased Petbar’s Lakeline location from its previous owners in November 2024. He plans to build the Lakeline team up and open a third location closer to Austin or the Mueller area in the future.

“You get into this business with a love for animals,” Dewan said. “You need to have a certain level of patience and care and when the pet owners come in they sense that vibe from us that everyone understands what it’s like to have dogs and put dogs as a special place in your heart.”
