B-Austin Community, a new mixed-use development emphasizing sustainability and wellness, is slated to open Feb. 1 at 6700 Manchaca Road in Austin. Three stories of the two buildings in the complex are completed, and work is still underway, Community Coordinator Gray Godwin said. In addition to 14 apartments, the community will offer about 6,000 square feet of commercial space, including offices for a doctor of physical therapy, a psychologist and a chiropractor. Those health practitioners will work closely with on-site local gym Alliance Physical Culture, which is planning to have its soft opening Feb. 1 within the development at 6700 Manchaca Road, Ste. 13. The gym will offer barbell strength training, kettlebell sport training, yoga, Pilates and other classes as well as personal training. Zero waste is another focus of the development—the gym is set to house a zero-waste station for batteries, light bulbs and computer parts, Godwin said. In addition to being part of the Austin Energy Green Build program, the community is planning to be the first development of its kind in Austin to launch a Zero-Waste valet service, he said, in addition to offering valeted compost and recycling services. The community overall will use solar power as well as water recycling and rainwater collection. "Around 60-62 percent of water in Austin goes to landscaping needs, so this will take that down to zero [for the development]," Godwin said.
