Mi Madre's Mexican Restaurant will thank its customers for 25 years of support by throwing a celebration party April 11.
The free, family-friendly customer appreciation event will include a taco-eating contest, a salsa-eating contest, piata-making workshops hosted by Jumpolin, live screen printing by Fine Southern Gentlemen and Mexican food and drinks.
In addition, there will be live performances from music acts DJ Chorizo Funk, Sam Armado, Mariachi Relampago and the Flamenco Symphony as well as dancing by Del Valle's Ballet Folkrico. There will also be an art market featuring goods from multiple vendors, such as the Mexican American Cultural Center, Aloha Southwest Artistry, Arte de Perla, Viva la Fiesta and Tree Creations.
Open since 1990, Mi Madre's owner Aurelio Torres said he has seen the neighborhood evolve from an unsafe area to a place where families and students frequent.
"We are so happy to be a part of the transformation and are so thankful to our loyal customers who keep coming back week after week," Torres said in a statement. "We want to show our appreciation by celebrating our 25 years of service with the Austin community."
The 25th anniversary celebration takes place 1-8 p.m. April 11 at Mi Madre's, 2201 Manor Road, and next door at School House Pub, 2207 Manor Road. For more information about the restaurant, visit the Mi Madre's
