When the Washington family opened Sweet Shack Candy Shop on July 4, there were just three shelves—custom-built by co-owner Winefred Washington—to hold the sugary treats and bulk candy sold at the store. Since then the shop has expanded its offerings to include novelty sodas such as sasparillas, a frozen drink machine, nostalgic candy, locally made gourmet popcorn and more. We have added a lot more bulk candy, too, co-owner Jackie Washington said. Thats the main thing people really like. They can get the type of candy they like in the amount they need and in a mix that they really want. Jackie said the shop aims to be a neighborhood staple. Her family of six has been in Cedar Park since 1994. We just wanted to have a fun, unique, family kind of place, she said. We have people of all ages coming in because everybody loves candy.
