Site preparation work began in June on Austin Aquatics and Sports Academy, a $6.5 million athletic training facility located at 5513 Southwest Parkway, said Todd Foley, head coach and general manager.

The facility, slated to open in October, will serve competitive swimmers and triathletes as well as weekend warriors and people who want to stay in shape for their health, he said. Backed by SolarWinds CEO Kevin Thompson, it will feature an outdoor Olympic-sized competition pool, spin bikes, and indoor and outdoor training space, Foley said.

"One of the better 50-meter pools in the country will be right here in Austin," he said.
