Earl Maxwell, CEO of St. David's Foundation, toldCommunity Impact Newspaperthat the $1 million would fund operations to ensure that Lone Star Circle of Care could continue to serve its uninsured and underinsured patients.



St. David's Foundation is a longtime partner of LSCC and has given the Georgetown-based health care nonprofit $23.5 millionincluding the June 5 funding announcementsince 2006, he said. The relationship between the two organizations has grown over the years. St. David's annual contributions to LSCC fall in the $5 million to $5.5 million range, he said.



LSCC has also received several grants from the foundation for services in the past.



"We've been in close communication with the executives and the board of Lone Star [Circle of Care] for the better part of a month," Maxwell said. "We continue to be in close communication and are monitoring the process. We have the same goals they haveto help Lone Star return to a sustainable organization.



"It's all about the low-income people in the region, especially those in Williamson County," he added. "Apart from Lone Star, there isn't a safety net for them. Lone Star is the safety net, and we want to preserve that."

St. David's Foundation announced June 5 it has given $1 million to Lone Star Circle of Care to help stabilize the Georgetown-based health care nonprofit after it completed three rounds of layoffs in May.



"St. David's Foundation has been a critical partner in helping to provide high quality health carefor the uninsured and underinsured in the Williamson County community," LSCC Interim CEO Rhonda Mundhenk said in a news statement. "We appreciate their continued generosity. Additional funding grants are also being considered."



LSCC is a nonprofit Federally Qualified Health Center with 27 clinics in Central Texas that serve more than 80,000 patients.In the statement, LSCC said it "has agreed to provide complete accountability and transparency to St. David's Foundation."



"The foundation has asked that LSCC provide a sustainability plan in the coming weeks," the statement read.



St. David's Foundation is a long-time partner of LSCC who has provided funding for the organization in the past, according to thestatement.



The announcement follows a difficult month for LSCC, in which it laid off a total of 185 employeesmost of which were concentrated in administrative departmentsto preserve clinical services.
