Austin-based business Birds Barbershop plans to open its sixth location on Jan. 6 at 5000 W. Slaughter Lane, Ste. 202.

Michael Portman, who co-owns the company with Jayson Rapaport, said the Southwest Austin market is underserved, and some customers drive north of Ben White Boulevard to get to Birds Barbershop's other locations.

"We've been looking at Southwest Austin ... for a long, long time," Portman said. "There's very little supply as far as commercial real estate goes that really catches people's eye but the right space became available at the right time."

The location was previously home to Harper's Fine Jewelry, which relocated to San Marcos in August.

To celebrate the opening, Birds will offer $6 off all haircuts in January to customers who provide the password "I Birds Slaughter" when checking out, Portman said. Men's cuts cost $21 and women's cuts are $44. The shop offers free Wi-Fi and Shiner beer to its customers.
