In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Breast Health Initiative will host a number of events around Bastrop County to encourage regular testing. The Breast Health Initiative is part of Bastrop County Cares.

According to Breast Health Initiative Chair Dr. Linda Ornelas Wilson, the purpose of the Breast Health Initiative is to reach historically underserved, underinsured or uninsured women.

"The people that need care that may not have access, especially some of the minority populations that don't have good health care or access, it's who we're really trying to focus on to get them the services that they deserve as well," Wilson said.
