TxDOT will match the reduced limit for the section of roadway outside of city jurisdiction, officials said.
The gist
Safety concerns along the roadway were addressed at the Feb. 13 Bastrop City Council meeting. The council discussed further speed reduction in the future if the change is supported by a traffic study.
“I know a lot of people who are avoiding [FM] 969; it’s gotten so bad,” said Skip Connett, who owns property along FM 969 and requested the TxDOT study, at the Feb. 13 meeting.
It is unlikely the study reflects the current amount of traffic on FM 969 due to the development in the area, City Manager Sylvia Carrillo said at the meeting, noting the Starlink, Boring Co., Valverde and further Colony developments in the area.
“You have a 60-40 shot that the numbers weren’t there because the growth is so rapid,” Carrillo said at the meeting.
