Bastrop's communitywide choir, A Joyous Christmas, will offer its annual holiday concert Dec. 22 at Jerry Fay Wilhelm Center for the Performing Arts from 7-8:30 p.m.

In a nutshell

The free show will include A Joyous Christmas choir, in addition to performances by The Honor Choir, Candice Carraway and two skits by Bastrop Opera House.

"It's all centered on the very first Christmas," said David McCall, A Joyous Christmas board president. "This year's theme is 'Within The Manger Walls.' It is always a great evening for the whole family."

The details

Doors will open at the performing arts center at 6 p.m., when a reception will be available for those attending. McCall said snacks and punch will be provided in the lobby, where attendees can mingle while listening to a local pianist. A photographer will also be available before the show offering free Christmas photos.

A closer look

Since A Joyous Christmas was created in 2016, singers from more than a dozen area churches come together each year to provide a free, Christmas-themed concert. At the end of the show, a collection is taken up and distributed to a local nonprofit. This year, board members from A Joyous Christmas selected Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry. Other organizations from years past include Bastrop County Long Term Recovery, Hope House Bastrop, Bastrop Pregnancy Resource Center and several others. To date, the choir has donated more than $32,000.

What else?

A Joyous Christmas is directed by Brad Nix and will be accompanied by Joseph Martin. Both men have thousands of compositions in print combined and are locals to the area.

"We really are happy to do this every year," McCall said. "It's just a lot of fun for everyone."
